Mineral turpentine oil (MTO) is a clear, water-white liquid that is distilled from petroleum: 
  • Composition: MTO is made up of volatile fractions of crude oil, including paraffin, naphthenic, and aromatic hydrocarbons. 
  • Uses: MTO has many uses, including:
    • Cleaning: MTO is used to remove dirt, grease, and oil. It can also be used to clean and unclog screens after screen printing. 
    • Thinning: MTO is used to thin paints and inks. 
    • Dissolving: MTO can dissolve resins, rubber, and bitumen. 
    • Surface coatings: MTO is used in paints, varnishes, and lacquers. 
    • Dry cleaning: MTO is used in dry cleaning. 
    • Textile printing: MTO is used in pigment colors for textile printing. 
    • Electrical insulating compounds: MTO is used as a solvent for wax, rubber, and resins. 
  • Other names: MTO is also known as white spirit, petroleum spirit, and solvent naphtha.
