n-butanol, also known as normal butanol or n-butyl alcohol, is a clear, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive banana-like odor:

Chemical formula: C4H10O
Properties: A primary alcohol with a medium volatility and a flashpoint of around 35° C
Solubility: Almost insoluble in water, but soluble in most organic solvents
Uses: A solvent and feedstock for syntheses, used in the production of n-butyl acrylate, n-butyl acetate, and n-butyl glycol ethers
Applications: Used in the coatings industry, leather treatment, perfumes, and as a process or reaction solvent
Safety: Direct contact with n-butanol can irritate mucous membranes. Inhalation can cause breathing difficulty, coughing, and an anesthetic effect.
